This year, think of it as “420” all month long, and there’s never been more reason to celebrate cannabis: Illinois recently became the 11th state to legalize recreational marijuana. Legal hemp and CBD have become mainstream. The House passed the Safe Banking Act, which would significantly lessen financial restrictions on the cannabis industry. And a number of states advanced decriminalization over the past year.
But because of social distancing guidelines to help protect the public from COVID-19, large gatherings are now off the table. To fill in the gaps, cannabis entrepreneurs have scrambled to move live events online. So, this year, instead of celebrating your favorite weedy holiday in person, you may want to drop in on one of these virtual 4/20 celebrations.
Because cannabis has long been about sharing and community, Seattle-based industry folks are organizing a virtual weed-themed variety show to benefit the nonprofit, Feeding America. You can tune in to see live musical performances and conversations about all things cannabis with celebrities and influencers—and, of course, to donate to the cause. All funds raised during the broadcast will go toward helping make sure no American goes hungry at this challenging and unprecedented moment.
The event will be streamed on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube from 12:00pm to 5:00pm PST on Monday, 4/20. You can RSVP for Chronic Relief here.
From April 1st all the way through 4/20, Denver-based Higher Celebrations is hosting what they’re calling the “Dabvent Calendar”—a playful take on the advent calendar. In this version, cannabis influencers will review products on social media and their followers will then have a chance to win prizes like smoking and dabbing accessories, cannabis-themed apparel, weed yoga classes, and CBD products. Participating brands include Canna Style, a women’s clothing maker that celebrates 420 culture and Toker Poker, maker of an all-in-one lighter, poker, and tamper. You could even win a card game designed for socializing while elevated called Ducking High.

This three-day virtual event is hosted by artist Kole Trent and his family-run businesses, Trent Art Gallery and Nugtopia, in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Trent, who was inspired to create weed-themed artwork after his mother survived breast cancer with the help of cannabis, will donate a portion of art sales toward relief efforts for those affected by COVID-19.
Guests for the live virtual event, which takes place from April 18th to April 20th, will discuss cannabis topics from health to business to weed culture. For instance, veterinarian Casara Andre will share about pets and cannabis, and Karen Goldstein of the marijuana advocacy group, NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws), will speak about legalization efforts in Florida.
Each day at 4:20pm EST, Trent Art Gallery will give away weed-themed merchandise. The daily guest schedule can be found on Nugtopia’s site and you can livestream the three days of 420-themed conversation and entertainment on the event page.
Lightshade is a Denver-area chain of dispensaries that’s producing a virtual celebration for your favorite green holiday this year with the tagline, “Celebrate 420 at home in 2020.” Six guest DJs will perform Livestream for free on Twitch, and additional guest appearances are in the works.
This event is also a fundraiser for COVID-19 relief—beneficiaries, which could include the American Red Cross and funds to help industry folks affected by the outbreak, will be announced soon.
