With all of the excitement about medicinal cannabis, it almost seems too good to be true, but thankfully it isn’t. A recent study published in the scholarly Journal of Oncology Practice was able to shed light on the impact of medicinal cannabis as a treatment for patients with an array of different forms of cancer.Â
In Minnesota’s medical cannabis program they took the patient-reported scores on their symptoms and drew conclusions on the severity of symptoms like anxiety, lack of appetite, depression, disturbed sleep, fatigue, nausea, pain, and vomiting in the patients first four months at the program. After the four months patients reported at least a 30% decline in these difficult and frightening symptoms. A smaller portion was able to achieve and sustain these results.Â
This study, among many others, is telling of the meaningful and lasting relief that cannabis can have for cancer patients, now and in the future. With future studies the hope is that cannabis is more frequently prescribed by doctors to patients seeking relief from their cancer treatments, without having to worry about harmful side effects.
