Oregon Medical Marijuana

In 1998 Ballot Measure 67 made Oregon one of the first states in the nation to enact medical marijuana legislation. Approved by 55% of voters on November 3, 1998, the bill went into effect the next month on December 3, 1998.

Ballot Measure 67 removed state level criminal penalties for qualifying patients in regards to the use, possession, and cultivation of medical cannabis. In order to be granted this protection a patient must possess a signed letter of recommendation from their attending physician that cannabis may “mitigate” their debilitating symptoms.
